A group of Republican senators intends to block states from granting driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.
The project called “Stop the green light for undocumented driver’s licenses” seeks that states that give licenses to undocumented immigrants and with sanctuary laws do not receive certain federal funds.
Blackburn said in a statement. “Immigrants must follow the appropriate federal process and obtain citizenship or legal status before obtaining a state driver’s license.
The legislator used as a reference the death of a man in a collision in December 2018. The other driver was identified as an undocumented immigrant, who was deported after being charged with negligent manslaughter.
The funds that the pro-immigrant states would lose correspond to programs for law enforcement and criminal justice.
